MIDDLE SCHOOL CLASSES
The following are a sample of our offerings for Summer 2020.
Summer 2021 classes will be posted in February of 2021.
Middle school classes are for students entering grades 6 - 9 in August.

SUMMER 2020 CLASSES
Students are registered by the week and can sign up for a single week, or can elect to enroll for up to five weeks. Each week has different class offerings, and students register for two classes each week.
Period A runs from 8:45am to 10:35am, after which there is a 20-minute break.
Period B runs from 10:55am until 12:45pm.
NOTE: all classes will run subject to enrollment. If a class is cancelled due to lack of enrollment, you will be contacted. Instructors are not guaranteed and may be switched without notice.

#101A & 101B Cooking: Staples of the States
**This is a two-period class**
Take a road trip through the United States, making different cuisines from each region of the country. From the Northeast to the Southwest, taste the foods that are considered staples across the country. Come join us for a yummy and fun week!
#102A Optical Illusion Art
Did you know that you can create art that tricks your eyes into seeing three-dimensional shapes on two-dimensional surfaces? In this class, you will learn geometrical tricks to create an illusion of depth in your artwork. You won’t believe your eyes when you see all the amazing drawings that you will create in this class.
#103A BestCoast Video Productions
Learn to film, produce, direct, edit and host your own TV show. You will develop and edit multiple video segments together to create a full-length show worthy of a million views! Each week a new episode will be created and uploaded.
#104A Point and Click Adventures
Classic gamers love the functionality of the traditional point-and-click game. See if you have what it takes to conquer games such as Machinarium, Botanicula and Samorost 2.
#105A Racing Robots
Get into the driver's seat as you help Ollie, a racing robot, execute tricks, move about, and take on student-created tracks. Race the other robot teams and see if you have what it takes to be a Coding Champion!
#106A Soccer
Spend time on the soccer field with our fun-filled activities! Progress through the many stages of the game to develop confidence, passing/shooting/dribbling techniques, and motor skills such as change of speed and change of direction.
#107A PErfectly Fun PE
Want to have fun in the sun and learn how to properly run? Join us for PErfectly Fun PE! This class will give you the physical education skills you need in middle school and beyond. Build your confidence and self-esteem in all things fitness by working with others and PErfecting your fitness goals.

#108B Expressive Cartooning
Dive face-first into basic techniques of designing realistic cartoon characters. Explore the visual language of facial expressions by studying the “looks” of popular cartoon characters. Then draw your own cartoons by focusing on face variation and details. Let’s face it, you don’t want to miss out on this cartooning class!
#109B Let’s Get Our Hands Dirty!
Dig right in and get your hands dirty, learning the best ways to plant new seeds and cuttings. Get practical “green thumb” experience by working in the gardens around the JAMS campus. Discover the magnificent plant life that’s all around us on field trips to local parks. At the end of the week, you’ll take home your own plant so you can maintain and care for it. This hands-on class will definitely GROW your love of planting!
#110B Middle School Masters
This class is designed to help prepare and organize you for middle school, both academically and socially. You will learn how to be a successful student by learning strategies for managing both the triumphs and challenges of middle school. By the end of this course you will feel confident, prepared and excited for the upcoming school year.
#111B Summer Dance
Spend your week dancing, creating and performing, all while having fun. In this session, you will learn different styles of dance such as Hip Hop, Jazz, Salsa and Swing dance. No prior dance experience necessary.
#112B Field Games
Let's hit the field and have a fun day of games, including Kick Ball, Dog Catcher, Capture the Flag, Steal the Bacon, Red Light/Green Light, Relay Races and more! Improve your coordination, stamina and overall fitness in a fun and exciting way.
#113B Flag Football
Flag football is perfect for students who want a complete introduction to America’s game, or for those who simply want to brush up on their skills. Students will learn skills on both sides of the ball, including the core components of passing, catching, route running, and de-flagging, all presented in a fun and positive environment. Students will also engage in full-sided games of flag football by creating their own offensive and defensive plays.
